PhD Student
Ihunanya is a PhD student in the Centre for Energy Policy at the University of Strathclyde. She is a researcher whose work spans energy policy, climate finance, and financial technology, with a strong academic foundation in Finance and Banking (M.Sc.). Her doctoral research, titled “The Impacts of Green Transition for Energy Firms: The Effects of Carbon Pricing and Green Bonds on Firm Value,” investigates how market-based climate instruments shape firm performance within the context of the decarbonisation agenda. The study explores the European Emissions Trading System (EU ETS), the Carbon Price Support mechanism (CPS), and the promotion of green bonds as tools for financing sustainable initiatives particularly in light of the rising issuance of green bonds in recent years. While the implications of green transition initiatives on the value of energy firms remain insufficiently understood, her work contributes to a deeper understanding of how financial and policy instruments can drive a just and effective green transition.
Before joining CEP, Ihunanya worked as a Research and Teaching Assistant at the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Centre, Lagos Business School, where she supported projects on SME development and sustainable entrepreneurship across Nigeria. She also volunteers with The Energy Time Podcast, a platform dedicated to advancing public understanding of Africa’s evolving energy landscape through data-driven stories and expert dialogues. Her primary goal is to bridge the gap between policy, finance, and practice in the global energy transition, ensuring that sustainability and inclusivity remain central to economic development. She is open to industry engagement and actively seeks collaborative opportunities related to these areas.
