Digital Mandarin Speaking Competition

The British Council is pleased to announce that a digital Mandarin Speaking Competition will take place in 2021. The Competition provides a great opportunity for secondary school students to practice and improve their Mandarin language skills. Taking part in the competition increases students’ motivation for learning the language, develops vocabulary and improves pronunciation, raises confidence for oral examinations and inspires students to discover more about Chinese culture.

Application entries will be open for schools from 11 January 2021 with a closing date of 12 February 2021.

The three categories of Beginners, Intermediates, Advanced will compete online between 22 March to 30 April in heats and then finals. For the first time the Groups category will also be online, through a pre-recorded video entry, submitted online prior to 22 March. The competition will end with an online Live celebration event including the winners’ announcement, to be held between 17 and 21 May 2021.

Full details on eligibility, guidance and terms and conditions, as well as details on the application process will be communicated through the British Council website in early January 2021 (see link below).
