Scottish Opera Tiny Chef project

In Autumn 2019, a team of Scottish Opera artists visited four primary schools; Carron, Culross, Armadale and Jordanhill, and worked with over 200 pupils aged between 6 and 11 on a series of workshops designed to encourage pupils to learn some basic words and numbers in Mandarin, and to introduce them to the principals of food purchasing, preparation and presentation, with the focus on fresh, health ingredients. The workshops were developed in partnership with the Confucius Institute for Scotland's Schools to help children engage with the topics in a fun and creative way.

Over several weeks, the children developed an original story that brings their work together into a magical tale set in a marvellous, moveable restaurant known as The Sūgélán Dragon. The children's musical, artistic and narrative ideas have now been developed by a composer, librettist and illustrator, and woven into this beautiful digital storybook - Tiny Chef - a day in the life of the most magical of eating emporiums.
