Digital Anthology of Writing on Love in Later Life

What are we looking for?

We are looking for new and previously unpublished writing on the theme of love in later life. You interpret the theme as you see fit! Like love, some things can’t be measured, so this will be a space for first-time, emerging and experienced writers interested in love and aging.

To be eligible you must be resident in Scotland and aged 60+.

The anthology will be published on a website hosted by the University of Strathclyde from late October/early November 2025. There will be a launch event/reading in Glasgow. There will be a fee for anyone invited to appear at this event.

What forms of writing will be accepted?

You can send one prose piece and up to four texts in total.

Submissions

  • Fiction or memoir: between 1,000 and 2,000 words, submitted in a Word document in a standard font, size 12, with double line spacing
  • Poetry: up to 40 lines can be sent in the format that best suits the delivery of the work in its possible published form

Selection and Payment

Up to sixteen pieces (a mix of prose or poetry) will be selected for the anthology. The fee for each piece selected will be £50.

The anthology will be edited by, and all submissions will be read by, the project team of Meehan, Hafford-Letchfield (Univ. of Strathclyde) and Cockburn (Autumn Voices).

Works should be previously unpublished. Copyright remains with the author.

How to submit

To submit, please email using the subject header ‘Anthology Submission’. Submissions are open from 1st March - 30th August 2025.

Every submission should be accompanied by a title sheet including author’s name, address, the word count/line count of the piece, and a short biography of under 100 words. Cover letters are not required.

Please note, all submissions will be acknowledged but we are unable to provide feedback on unsuccessful admissions.
