Meet Professor Barbara Fawcett and Professor Trish Hafford-Letchfield
Barbara Fawcett and Trish Hafford-Letchfield joined the School of Social Work and Social Policy two years ago. Barbara previously held the positions of Professor of Social Work and Social Policy at the Universities of Birmingham and Sydney, Australia, and Trish, was previously Professor of Social Work at the University of Middlesex. Both have been senior managers, but the decision to role share the Head of School position arose out of a conversation about women and management and how a role share brings strengths in both of their skills and knowledge to try out different ways of working.
Both have a clear vision for the School which focuses on significantly enhancing interdisciplinary research, Internationalisation and student-focused blended-learning at all levels.
Part of what they want to do incorporates adopting an Academy approach, ensuring that the whole School works together and learning from the experiences of Covid-19 to take forward different ways of teaching and learning and providing support. Their management style involves all members of staff working on the vision and Trish and Barbara work together on strategic as well as on day-to-day operational matters.
This is a new development for the University of Strathclyde, but the clear benefits mean that yet again the University will be a pioneer in innovation and transformation.
