Book launch, ‘Research Handbook on Art, Culture and Heritage Law’
22 June, 4:45, LH127

As part of the Summer School ‘A Terra Usque ad Astra: Heritage, Human Rights and Space Law’, Strathclyde Law School will hold a book launch of the ‘Research Handbook on Art, Culture and Heritage Law’ on 22 June 2026, starting at 4:45 PM in LH127 (ground floor of the Lord Hope Building).
The Research Handbook brings together leading scholars from different disciplines to explore art, culture, and heritage law, their definition, protection and contestation. It critically assesses legal frameworks and ethical practices through four challenges: sustainable development, intergenerational equity, decolonisation and cultural rights.
Following the official opening of the Summer School by the Head of the Law School, Prof. Adelyn Wilson, the book launch part of the evening will begin:
- first, the three editors – Sophie Vigneron (University of Kent), Janey Ulph (University of Leicester), and Antoinette Maget Dominicé (University of Geneva), will present the handbook, speaking about the publication and their work to bring the project to fruition;
- then, selected chapter authors will briefly introduce their contributions;
- next, two invited experts will provide commentary on the Research Handbook – Christa Roodt (University of Glasgow) and Samuel White (University of the West of Scotland);
- finally, the editors will take questions from the audience.
After the event, participants will be invited to take part in the Civic Reception at the Glasgow City Chambers (6:30 PM).
The event is open to the public, free to attend, and will take place in a hybrid mode; however, both in-person and online participants need to RSVP to miroslaw.sadowski@strath.ac.uk. Please direct any queries to Mirosław Sadowski at that address as well.
