University of Strathclyde Mediation Clinic to host third UK Mediation Clinic Conference

The Mediation Clinic Conference 2023 is online and in person on Saturday 18 March 2023.

This is the third UK Mediation Clinic Conference and the first in-person since the pandemic.  Entitled “Working within the courts: the role of mediation and mediation clinics in civil justice systems” it takes place in the University of Strathclyde’s state-of-the-art Teaching and Learning Hub.

The programme is packed with speakers and workshops on all things mediation. Keynote speaker, Tony Allen, is probably the UK’s best-known mediator specialising in clinical negligence disputes and a member of CEDR for over 25 year. His topic is “Mediation in the Shadow of the Law: Sunlight or Shadow.”   Sheriff Derek Livingston covers “Making the Most of Simple Procedure: A Sheriff’s Perspective,” and John Sturrock KC will set out the sustainable vision of the World Mediators Alliance on Climate Change’s Green Pledge.

Workshops include: “What we Learn from our own Practice”; “The Consumer Voice”; “Working with Lawyers in Mediation”; and “How to prevent ‘a slip ‘twixt the cup and the lip’! How to encourage parties to mediate after a court referral to the Mediation Clinic.”

The conference will be of interest to mediators, students of law and dispute/conflict resolution, lawyers, judges and academics. It is followed by a drinks reception sponsored by Anderson Strathern.
