BA Education & TESOLGihad Al-Jabri

Tell us a little bit about your time with the International Study Centre and how you progressed to your currently programme of study...
In 2018, I did a foundation programme at the International Study Centre at the University of Strathclyde. It was such a valuable experience where it helped me to prepare for my degree programme. I am currently in my 3rd year of studies, working towards a Bachelor in Education and TESOL. The transfer from the ISC onto my degree programme was so smooth. The knowledge that I had aquired from the ISC was present throughout my second year, which was a critical part of my adaptation with the new journey that I am in.

What do you think of the support available at Strathclyde?
I believe that the relationship between teachers and their students is a pivotal source of motivation and success. The teachers at the university are adequately qualified to establish that kind of relationship. You get the opportunity to meet with them before and after class, and it is very helpful to develop such a positive relationship. The staff and the students are so kind and friendly. There is always someone who will be keen to offer help when it is needed.

What has been the highlight of your course?
There are many aspects that I like about the course, but the placement is one of the experiences that I will never forget. It provided me with the opportunity to put theories into practice, and to become more involved with all aspects of teaching including planning, preparing materials, teaching, and evaluating learning experiences.

Any final points or words of wisdom?
I am truly grateful for being a student at the university since it has been and still is such a great contributor in shaping my personality. To be a student at the university means to believe that the world is your oyster. Strathclyde truly is "the place of useful learning".
