Weronika Jaworski LLB Scots & English LawWhy did you decide to study at the University of Strathclyde?
What really attracted me to Strathclyde was the Law Schools great reputation. By researching different universities when I was at high school, I quickly learned that Strathclyde is one of Scotland’s leading providers of legal education and offers the biggest student-run Law Clinic. Another plus side is that the university is located in the heart of Glasgow making travelling a lot easier for all students that don’t live within the student accommodation, including myself. Strathclyde became my number one choice very quickly and I have not regretted it since!

What inspired you to study law?
Since a young age, I was always interested about how the world revolves around law. In high school I constantly found myself leaning more towards subjects such as modern studies and politics, which I enjoyed the most. For that reason, I found that studying law would be the perfect choice for me. Not only do you learn about how the law affects us on a daily basis, but you also learn how your knowledge of law could help other people in the future. I also realised that studying a law degree would open many job opportunities, you don’t always have to become a solicitor with a law degree, you can find yourself gaining a job within the accountancy and finance field, police and prison services, as well as many more.

What has been the highlight of your time at Strathclyde?
Definitely the people that I have met through the course. By going to university, you get to meet people from all around the world with similar interests to you. In the past, I used to be shy to approach my fellow students, but university has completely opened me up to making so many new friends in lectures, tutorials and societies. My year group has even made a group chat on Facebook where we all support and help one another. Another main highlight would be receiving exam results and seeing that all the hard work that I have put into the course has paid off. It definitely increases your confidence and makes you want to work even harder.

What would be your advice for people considering studying at Strathclyde?
Pick a course you truly find intriguing and dedicate yourself to your studies. Work hard to meet all the deadlines, engage with the reading and most importantly don’t be afraid to ask for help; there is so many people and university staff that will be more than happy to support you. Be opened to making lots of new friends and enjoy the university experience. A 4-year course might sound long but it goes very quickly so do make the most of it.

What has been the main challenge while studying at University?
I found referencing quite confusing at the start. In high school you never got taught how to reference your own work so this was definitely a challenge. However, OSCOLA referencing guidelines have definitely helped me and now I have the developed the skill to successfully reference my assignments. The marking scheme can also be hard to understand at first but you do find yourself adapt to these things very quickly.

Have you joined any clubs or societies while at Strathclyde? Tell us a bit more about your experience!
I joined the cheerleading team in first year and absolutely loved it! Not only does it help by dividing up university work with a hobby but it also made me meet so many different people from different courses that I ended up becoming really good friends with. My cheerleading time competed in a few competition and came 2nd in nationals. It is such a great experience to look back on and I would do it all over again. Strathclyde offers so many clubs and societies to choose from; some related to your course and others not. Pick something that you will truly like and enjoy it!

What do you hope to do when you complete your course?
I want to undertake the Diploma in Legal Practice once I graduate with my LLB in 2021. With this, I hope to receive a traineeship that will allow me to become a fully qualified solicitor in the future. I am really excited to see what my future holds!
