Registration is now open for Creative Writing Visiting Speakers in Semester 1
The University of Strathclyde’s Creative Writing team has launched a series of live, online public literary events starting this autumn that are ‘made by Strathclyders, open to all’.
Creative Writing at Strathclyde has both a long, rich history and a dynamic new team of staff. As part of the new, innovative English & Creative Writing undergraduate degree, our subject was recently listed as 5th out of 101 institutions in the UK in The Guardian’s University Rankings for 2020. Meanwhile, the Creative Writing team - Andrew Meehan, Dr. Jenni Fagan and Dr. Rodge Glass – are developing an exciting new MLitt in Creative Writing which is about to welcome its 3rd cohort.
As a result of the COVID-19 outbreak and in response to the need to keep people connected with their learning and each other, the Creative Writing team have developed a range of live online events which are tailored for students but which anyone can attend for free. These events will be hosted by Dr. Rodge Glass, Senior Lecturer in Creative Writing and Convener of the MLitt in Creative Writing.
This Semester sees several online events celebrating the very best in Scottish literature. First, the Saltire-award winning novelist and short story writer Helen McClory will visit on Tuesday October 6th at 5pm, reading from and discussing her acclaimed collection Mayhem & Death. Next is an event celebrating the publication of Antlers of Water: Writing on the Nature and Environment of Scotland, a new anthology edited by poet and acclaimed non-fiction writer Kathleen Jamie. Jamie, a Professor of Creative Writing at the University of Stirling, will discuss the project alongside two contributors to Antlers of Water, non-fiction writer and journalist Chitra Ramaswamy as well as the award-winning folk musician Karine Polwart.
