Fàilte gu Glaschu - Welcome to Glasgow

Glasgow (the "Dear Green Place", is the largest and most multicultural city in Scotland. It is known for its world-class museums and attractions, architecture and design, lively music scene, and cutting-edge cuisine. For an overview, see 10 reasons to visit Glasgow. Glasgow's motto is "Let Glasgow Flourish", which we think fits perfectly with our proposed theme for the symposium. Its coat of arms (a tree, a bird, a fish and a bell) offers a symbolic story about how we can find a purpose for our lives even if it was not the one we originally envisaged! You will discover that Glasgow is not all about whisky, haggis and bagpipes but we'll make sure you have the chance to experience all three if you want. We will invite you to dance with us at a ceilidh. Also, we can tell you where to visit some Highland cows without leaving the city.

On a more serious note, Glasgow was once the "second city of the British Empire" and, therefore, built its wealth through the Transatlantic slave trade. As a city, we are in a process of acknowledging and addressing the harm caused to enslaved people and their descendants.

Glasgow is regularly listed as a world-leading place to visit for a city break (e.g. Condé Nast Traveller, 2021; Time Out, 2022) and is easily accessed by air, rail, sea, and road.
