Call for submissions

Call for submissions

We invite proposals for the following conference activities:

1. Panels on cohesive topics within clinical linguistics and phonetics: Panels will be 90mins. Proposals should consist of a brief outline of the theme and the purpose of the panel with a list of the people organising and speaking in the panel. Panels are normally collections of 3 or 4 individual paper presentations, however we welcome a range of formats but particularly those that encourage audience participation and discussion. Panel organisers are asked to avoid restricting their panel authors to the same research group; preference will be given to panels with a clear diversity of gender, seniority and affiliation of participants.

The panel organiser is responsible for securing the cooperation of all the participants who are to be involved in the panel and for deciding on the internal structure of the panel.

Panel abstract submissions should be 300-500 words. The submission portal will be available here from 19th October 2026.

2. Workshops (new for 2027): Workshops will be 90mins. They should be interactive and practical, offering opportunities to engage with new methods, tools, or teaching techniques. Proposals should include: (1) a clear title; (2) a brief rationale outlining relevance to clinical linguistics and phonetics; (3) learning objectives and intended audience; (4) a description of activities and structure and (5) presenter details (name, affiliation, email). Please include maximum participant numbers and any practical requirements in your proposal.

Workshop abstract submissions should be 300-500 words. The submission portal will be available here from 19th October 2026.

3. Standard Oral Presentations: Oral presentations will be 15 minutes. Your presentation should focus briefly on the background, with most of the focus spent on the methods, results and conclusions.

ICPLA considers poster and oral presentations to be of equal importance, therefore the Scientific Committee reserves the right to change the authors' preference.

Oral presentation abstract submissions should be 300 words. The submission portal will be available here from 19th October 2026.

4. Lightning talks (new for 2027): Lightning talks will be 5 minutes. These sessions can be used to share ideas, announce new projects, create excitement and inspire future discussions.

Lightning talk abstract submissions should be 100 words. The submission portal will be available here from 19th October 2026.

5. Poster Presentations: Posters should focus briefly on the background, with most of the focus spent on the methods, results and conclusions. Poster presenters can also submit a lightning talk proposal to support the work presented via poster.

Poster abstract submissions should be 300 words. The submission portal will be available here from 19th October 2026.

Post-conference Special Issue of Clinical Linguistics and Phonetics

We would like to invite all conference presenters to consider submitting their ICPLA research to a post-conference special issue of Clinical Linguistics and Phonetics. Presentations from ICPLA2027, in all formats, will be considered equally for publication.

The papers are expected to be 7000 words maximum (this includes references) on topics that fall within the remit of clinical linguistics and phonetics. Papers will be subject to full peer review so please note that acceptance of an abstract for the conference does not guarantee acceptance for publication in the journal.

Expressions of interest: 30th September 2027
