From Monday 22 September until Sunday 7 December 2025, Library opening hours are as follows:

24-hour opening

The Library building is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week during the formal assessment period.

24 hour opening for Semester 1 will begin at 7am on Monday 8 December and end at 7pm on Friday 19 December.

 

Winter vacation (Christmas and New Year) opening hours

The Library building and the Information Services Enquiries Desk are both closed over the Christmas and New Year period. 

The Library building:

  • will close at 7pm on Friday 19 December
  • will be open from 9am until 5pm on Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 December
  • will be closed from Monday 22 December to Sunday 4 January (inclusive)
  • will reopen at 7am on Monday 5 January

The Enquiries Desk:

  • will be open from 9am to 5pm on Friday 19 December
  • will be open from 12 noon to 5pm on Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 December
  • will be closed from Monday 22 December to Sunday 4 January (inclusive)
  • will reopen at 9am on Monday 5 January

Online Library resources are available 24 hours a day.

 

Week beginning Monday 5 January

For the final week of Winter Vacation, from Monday 5 to Sunday 11 January (inclusive), our opening times are as follows:

Welcome/consolidation week

Semester 2 consolidation week runs from Monday 12 to Sunday 18 January 2026 (inclusive).

During consolidation week the Library building and our Enquiries Desk is open as follows:

Archives & Special Collections Reading Room

The Archives & Special Collections Reading Room is open by appointment only. Email archives@strath.ac.uk to make an appointment.

 

Closing bells

If you are studying towards the end of the day, you may hear our closing bells. We ring the closing bells:

  • twice approximately 30 minutes before closing
  • twice approximately 20 minutes before closing
  • three times ten minutes before closing

If the Library is very busy, we may ring the bells again before closing. Please make sure you begin to pack up your things and make your way out of the Library at least ten minutes before we are due to close. This helps our staff make sure the building is securely closed on time.
