The University is committed to providing a safe and supportive environment especially for those that may be more vulnerable including children and protected adults.
The Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme, managed by Disclosure Scotland, helps ensure that any individual carrying out a regulated role is suitable to do so and does not pose a risk of harm.
PVG Scheme membership is a legal requirement for anyone who:
- Carries out a regulated role with children or protected adults, or
- Supervises or manages someone undertaking regulated work
If an individual has been offered a regulated role at the University, they will require to become a PVG member before they start employment. If a current employee’s role changes to a regulated role, they will need to join the scheme before the new activities begin.
Disclosure Scotland provide an online eligibility checker to help determine if work is regulated.
Roles that do not meet the criteria for PVG may still require a Disclosure Scotland criminal record check (e.g. Level 1 or Level 2), depending on the nature of the work. At Strathclyde, all Academic and Teaching roles will always be subject to a Disclosure Scotland check.
Further information can be found in our Protecting Vulnerable Groups and Disclosure Policy. Guidance around the different types of check and the application process is also available via Disclosure Scotland and on the University’s People Hub (staff login required).
If you require any further information, please contact a member of your HR Team who will be able to offer support and discuss any questions or concerns.
