Many companies and organisations actively target Strathclyde in order to recruit students and graduates.

By attending employer events you will get the opportunity to meet employers, develop your skills and gain an insight into work experience, and graduate careers.

Employer Recruitment Events include:

  • careers fairs - these provide an opportunity to meet with a number of employers face-to-face to discuss their upcoming opportunities
  • employer presentations - advice on how to prepare for presentations
  • employer workshops - these focus on skills and how to perform in the recruitment process
  • insight events - more on Insight events
  • employer open days - can be virtual or held at employer's premises

At these events, employers will talk to you about:

  • their graduate job and internship vacancies
  • what it's like to work for the company
  • what they look for in applicants
  • what the recruitment and selection process involves
  • what the graduate scheme involves and much more

How to find employer events

Once you have logged in to MyCareer you can filter the events available by using the Search Events by Category button.

Event categories to search for: Employer Presentation or Employer Workshop or Careers Fair or Insight Event or Employer Open Day.

These events are an opportunity to impress, so it's essential to do some initial research before you attend:

  • take a look at the company's website to find out more about them
  • think about the questions you want to ask to help you work out if you'd like to work for them
  • avoid asking anything that you could easily find the answer to on their website

Employer events held elsewhere in the UK

To find out about graduate careers events throughout the UK visit Prospects.

The Scottish Graduate Fair is the highlight of the recruitment season.

Now in its 34th year, it is the biggest graduate, postgraduate and internship recruitment event in Scotland attracting students and graduates of all disciplines and a variety of graduate employers and postgraduate recruiters.

Students and graduates from all universities are welcome to attend.

The Careers Service hosts three campus fairs each year:

These fairs will be held in semester one during academic session 2022-23. Details will be provided nearer the time.

Are you interested in a specific industry/sector (rather than an individual employer) and want to hear from alumni and professionals working in your area of interest?

Watch out for events organised by the Careers Service, professional bodies and other organisations who want to inform students about career paths within an industry/sector.

These events will cover a wide range of jobs and sectors that interest Strathclyde students.

They include our "Careers in ..." events which allow you to hear from professionals, many of whom are Strathclyde alumni, from a range of sectors, via speaker panels, Q&A sessions and networking. At these sessions you'll discover:

  • the range of jobs on offer within a sector
  • what different jobs involve
  • how to make a successful application

Before the event think about the questions you'd like to ask the speakers. Don't shy away from asking a question as the speakers are there to help you.
