Careers ServiceI want to work in engineering (specialisms)

Engineering is a profession in which scientific theory is applied to develop, design, analyse and find innovative solutions to real world problems. Branches of engineering include civil, chemical, software, mechanical, electrical, and industrial, which all have numerous sub disciplines and specialisms. Graduates from engineering disciplines have a wide range of options open to them in industry sectors such as aerospace, health, fast moving consumer goods (FMCG), construction, oil and gas and many more.

Once you’re working as a graduate engineer, you can do further professional qualifications such as those offered by professional bodies such as the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) or the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE). Becoming a Chartered Engineer (CEng), can improve your earning potential and career prospects.
