What I do as part of my role
As a Knowledge Exchange Associate on the Collaborative Research Cultures Project, I design and deliver the initiative’s Knowledge Exchange strategy, ensuring our activities align with sector-wide innovation agendas. I’ve developed evaluation frameworks that integrate equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) measures, facilitated Communities of Practice involving more than 80 staff and participants to build inclusive and sustainable collaborative learning. I design inclusive funding calls, produce impact reports and toolkits, and represent the University in national networks such as Advance HE, Vitae, and Wellcome-funded initiatives. My focus is on embedding equity and collaboration into research culture so that all staff can thrive.
What I’ve enjoyed about the project
Having worked in scientific research for over 17+ years, I’ve really valued the chance to give back to the community by helping build a positive and inclusive research culture. One of the things I’ve enjoyed most is seeing how distributing internal funding strategically can support a diverse range of university staff — across different job families — to deliver projects that drive innovation, strengthen collaborative practices, and create opportunities for underrepresented groups. It’s been rewarding to see these investments not only support individuals but also benefit the wider university community.
Talk to me about…
- Supporting care-experienced children & parents, and how we can build nurturing, trauma-informed approaches that help them to thrive.
- The importance of charity work on age action in the LGBT+ community — particularly ensuring that older LGBT+ people have access to dedicated social care opportunities, and are visible, valued, and supported as they age, with their unique experiences and histories recognised.
- Collaborative research, knowledge exchange, working in STEM work force and how universities can foster inclusive environments that enable both staff and students to succeed.
