What I do as part of my role

My primary role is to design and conduct qualitative interviews and diary research for the Collaborative Cultures project. I help the project to capture how individuals at Strathclyde collaborate and relate with one another and with external partners on the everyday level. Through engagement with diverse staff and postgraduate researchers, especially individuals who are under-represented, face equality barriers and/or are seldom heard, I bring to light their valuable and unique roles, experiences and contributions to the research and innovation community. Another key part of my role involves working alongside colleagues to design, deliver and evaluate the project’s seed funding calls.

What I’ve enjoyed about the project

I’ve enjoyed the collaborative aspect of the project. My role has allowed me to work and engage with many colleagues across departments, units and directorates, colleagues who I would not have crossed paths with otherwise. They come with different and interesting sets of expertise and personal and professional experiences. It has been enriching, thought-provoking and challenging all at once, but meaningful as I navigate my place in the research and innovation community, and work towards the impact and change I want to and can make.

Talk to me about…

  • Qualitative approaches to capturing research culture.
  • Sociology of education (especially in relation to international students and graduates, minoritised and seldom-heard individuals, and transnationally mobile academics and international school teachers).
