Accelerate Challenge

The Accelerate Chemistry Challenge is a week-long programme for S4 & S5 pupils from Widening Access backgrounds who are thinking about studying chemistry at university. Each June, Accelerate pupils spend a week in our laboratories, synthesising and analysing paracetamol, in the same way our undergraduates do. On the challenge, pupils will be hands-on with fume hoods, reflux apparatus, and infrared spectroscopy amongst many other advanced chemical techniques. It’s a great opportunity to experience life as a chemistry student and the programme is credit-rated, which can help contribute towards a conditional university offer in future.

The challenge is coordinated by the university’s Widening Access team, who also run the “Young Strathclyder” programme for younger pupils. For more information, or to check eligibility criteria, please visit the official pages below.
