Department of Physics receives Bronze Athena Swan Award
January 2026
The Department of Physics at the University of Strathclyde is proud to have been awarded the Bronze Athena Swan Award, recognising our commitment to advancing equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) across our academic and professional community.
The Athena Swan Charter is an internationally respected framework that encourages and celebrates good practice in supporting gender equality and inclusive working cultures within higher education and research. The Charter framework uses a structured self-assessment approach to recognise progress and support future action planning.
“Our department is committed to fostering an inclusive environment where every student and staff member can freely express their talents and feel genuinely valued and welcome. To achieve this, we have implemented several key initiatives… actively working to support the growth of our departmental community and promote wellbeing.”
This award reflects the collective efforts of staff and students within the Department of Physics to create a culture grounded in fairness, respect, and opportunity. The Bronze Athena Swan Award marks an important milestone in the department’s equality journey and demonstrates a strong institutional commitment to embedding inclusive practices across recruitment, progression, workload allocation, and student support.
We remain committed to further strengthening our EDI culture and building on this achievement in the coming years.
