Personal statement
Dimitris is a Professor in Finance at the University of Strathclyde. He is a regular speaker at international conferences and has been invited to present his research at academic institutions around the world. He has been a Visiting Scholar at the University of Geneva and a visiting lecturer at Bayes (formerly known as Cass) Business School, ESCP Europe, and SKEMA Business School. In addition, he is an Academic Fellow at the Centre for Responsible Banking & Finance (CRBF) of the University of St. Andrews.
Dimitris has extensive experience in various roles such as consulting and R&D. He is an academic advisor for the Scottish Government's Investor Panel with the remit to advise on how Scotland can attract global capital investment in the infrastructure required to transition to net zero. Dimitris was also a member of the Research Panel of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (ICAS) which has more than 21,000 Chartered Accountants as members worldwide.
His research interests are Corporate Finance, Sustainable Finance & ESG, Corporate Governance, Political Economy & Regulatory Frameworks. He is ranked in the top 10% of Authors on SSRN by all-time downloads and is on the top-1,500 Accounting Research Authors in SSRN. Since 2012, his research and external engagements have generated approximately £250,000 of external funding. His research is published in peer reviewed journals such as the Journal of Corporate Finance and the Journal of Banking and Finance among others.
Dimitris is Associate Editor for “The European Journal of Finance” and has served as Associate (Guest) Editor for the “International Review of Financial Analysis” and the “Journal of Operational Research Society”. Finally, he serves as research assessor for the Carnegie Trust and the ESRC and as a regular ad-hoc reviewer for a number of scientific journals.
In addition, Dimitris is the founding director of the MSc Sustainbale Finance and director of the MSc Investment and Finance, the latter being one of the largest MSc Programmes of Strathclyde Business School, with graduates placed with leading employers (e.g. Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, BlackRock, PwC etc.). Dimitris is also an excellent educator. He has received the Students' Association Award for Teaching Excellence in 2015 and 2017, and nominated for the Students' Association Award for Teaching Excellence in 2019 and 2021.
