Personal statement

I am a Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor at Department of Electronics and Electrical Engineering at University of Strathclyde, Glasgow. I joined Strathclyde as a Chancellor's Fellow in 2020 and prior to this, I was a Scientist/Asst. Professor at Hamad Bin Khalifa University, Qatar. My research interests span multidisciplinary areas and are focused on system-level modelling, management, and control frameworks to advance sustainability, reliability, and efficiency in societal infrastructures such as intelligent power grids and transportation networks. I am particularly interested in optimal integration of key disruptive technologies such as plug-in electric vehicles, renewable energies, demand-side management, and energy storage systems (ESS) to decarbonize transportation and electricity sectors. I have a rich and diverse educational background: I obtained my PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from North Carolina State University, Raleigh, NC (2014) and MSc degree in Telecommunications from University of Pittsburgh, PA, USA (2010), and BSC degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Dokuz Eylul University, Izmir, Turkiye (2007). I have teaching and curriculum development experience in the UK, USA, and Qatar on various topics on sustainable energy and transportation system. In addition to teaching and research activities, I am engaged in organizing international conferences. I am the TPC co-chair for IEEE SmartGridComm’23 and co-chaired the data analytics symposium at IEEE SmartGridComm’22. Furthermore, I regularly participate in major international conferences: I delivered tutorials at major IEEE Conferences (IEEE SmartGridComm’20, IEEE ITEC’20). I organized special issues for journals (MDPI Sensors and Energies), and currently serve as an editor for IET Electrical Systems in Transportation and Energies Journal (Electric Vehicles Section).
