Personal statement

I am a multidisciplinary social scientist with a PhD in Sociology from the University of York and a background in psychology and migration studies. My work focuses on health inequalities and the structural factors that shape them. A central focus of my research has been applying intersectionality-informed approaches to explore understudied relationships of health inequality and how power hierarchies within institutional and policy settings create and reinforce health disadvantage.

At the University of Strathclyde, I work as a Research Associate at the ESRC Centre for Lifecourse Health Equity (Equalise). My current role involves reviewing and synthesising qualitative evidence, carrying out new mixed-methods research, and engaging with policymakers and civil society to help shape equity-focused health strategies. I also support the design and delivery of community scrutiny panels and deliberative citizen juries to ensure that lived experience informs research and policy directions.

Prior to this, I was Associate Director for Research at the Health Equity Evidence Centre at Queen Mary University of London. There, I led applied research to support health care systems in addressing health and health care inequalities. Across my career, I’ve worked on a range of topics in the UK and European contexts using both qualitative and quantitative methods, participatory and community-engaged approaches, and translating complex evidence into accessible formats for policy and practice.

My work is driven by a commitment to social justice and inclusive research that reflects the realities of people’s lives.
