Personal statement

Bernhard Hidding joined the University of Strathclyde in 2013 and holds the SUPA Chair of Experimental Physics at SCAPA, the Scottish Centre for the Application of Plasma-based Accelerators.
He heads an international research group in the area of laser-plasma-beam dynamics. Bernhard is currently an ERC Consolidator Grant holder with the NeXource: Next-generation Plasma-based Electron Beam Sources for High-brightness Photon Science project http://nexource.phys.strath.ac.uk/ 2020-2025, leads the PWFA-FEL project http://pwfa-fel.phys.strath.ac.uk/ 2019-2023, and is Director of the Strathclyde Centre for Doctoral Training (SCDT) on Plasma-based Particle and Light Sources (P-PALS), http://ppals.phys.strath.ac.uk/
He co-chairs the UK's Plasma Wakefield Accelerator Steering Committee (PWASC) and is on the UK's Cockcroft Institute Management Committee.
Bernhard obtained his PhD in 2008 from Heinrich-Heine-University Düsseldorf at the University of Laser and Plasma Physics, led projects for European Space Agency and industry, was a DAAD-funded visiting researcher at UCLA's Department for Physics and Astronomy, was a DFG Emmy-Noether award recipient, a Professor at the Institute for Experimental Physics at University of Hamburg/DESY, and led the E-210: Trojan Horse collaboration at SLAC FACET.
