Personal statement

Steven Johnson, who joined the Physics Department in 2024, specializes in developing ultra-precise clocks using miniaturized atomic quantum technology. The application for this clock will be for navigation and timing applications. His expertise spans experimental control, laser development, deep learning, and imaging sensors. Previously, he worked at the University of Glasgow, focusing on novel imaging methods and covert image transmission within the UK Quantum Imaging hub, Quantic. Steven also holds a PhD from the University of Birmingham, where he was part of the Ultra-cold Atom Group.
