Personal statement

Personal Statement

With a deeply rooted passion for education and a wealth of experience in both national and international settings (Scotland, U.A.E., China, Ireland and Spain), I am dedicated to enhancing the development of preservice and inservice teachers’ knowledge and skills.  As a natural progression from Senior Leadership and Management Team roles within Primary schools, I was delighted to begin my career at The University of Strathclyde in August 2017. I use my classroom expertise, skills and knowledge to lead and add value to Initial Teacher Education courses and to work in partnership with local authorities.

With great ambition and innovation, I am privileged to lead the largest undergraduate Initial Teacher Education programme in Scotland the BA(Hons) Primary Education. I also lead and manage both the PGDE and BA Primary Education Numeracy and Mathematics modules. With fellow tutors, we work collaboratively to develop positive attitudes and beliefs towards the teaching and learning within this curricular area. Through enhancing positive attitudes and beliefs of preservice and inservice practitioners towards Numeracy and Mathematics, we hope to inspire positive attitudes within children in classrooms across Scotland. Encouraging all children to enquire, problem-solve and build connections between maths in school and maths in their home and community.

Progressively throughout my 25 years in teaching, I have been recognised as a strong team builder and facilitator, committed towards the delivery of service excellence to provide outstanding student experiences. This continues at the University of Strathclyde.

I believe that all children are entitled to equality, equity and excellence in education to develop their skills and positive attitudes for learning, life, and work. I also believe that all preservice teachers are entitled to equality, equity and excellence in education to nurture and support both pre service teachers and children to flourish!

Key research interests of mine include Differentiation, Financial Education and Raising Attainment through Interdependent Learning.

Scholarship of Teaching and Learning - Presentation at Conference
Marshall, Jacqueline (Co-investigator)
I presented, with my co-authors, the research from the Collaborative Writing Group Scholarship of Teaching and Learning publication. This was as part of the Strathclyde Scholarship of Teaching and Learning conference.

I presented key insights and recommendations from our literature review paper focusing on student peer assessment in higher education. Peer feedback was positive. This research project will develop into the development of a toolkit for Higher Education focusing the why and how to implement student peer assessment within classes, modules and across programmes at various levels.
