Personal statement

Thomas McAlinden is a marketing educator and Chartered Marketer whose work focuses on bridging academic excellence with industry practice. He joined the University of Strathclyde in August 2014 and is currently a Teaching Fellow in the Department of Marketing, delivering teaching across undergraduate, honours, postgraduate and MBA programmes.

Prior to joining the University, Thomas held a range of marketing roles within industry. Alongside his industry career, Thomas also gained several years’ teaching experience delivering professional marketing qualifications for the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM), supporting marketing practitioners in developing their professional knowledge and advancing their careers.

Thomas is a proud “Strathclyder” and has completed several qualifications at the University of Strathclyde, including an MBA (Distinction), MSc (Distinction), BA (Hons) in Marketing, and a Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education.

He is committed to continuing professional development and has supplemented his academic qualifications with a number of professional credentials, including Certified Business & Management Educator from the Chartered Association of Business Schools; becoming a Fellow of the CIM as well as being a Chatered Marketer; completing the Professional Diploma in Digital Marketing from the Digital Marketing Institute; and the Certificate in Disruptive Strategy from Harvard Business School Online.

Within the Department of Marketing, Thomas also holds the role of Deputy Director of Undergraduate and Honours Programmes and contributes to departmental governance through membership of the Departmental Ethics Committee and the Undergraduate Management Review Committee.
