Personal statement

I am a Research Associate in the Strathclyde Software Defined Radio (StrathSDR) laboratory at the University of Strathclyde. My research is focused on efficient utilisation of the radio spectrum - the radio waves that make wireless communication possible.

I have recently successfully completed the task of leading research in the spectrum sensing workstream of the £12m Future Open and Resilient Networks research project called Towards Ubiquitous 3-Dimensional Open Resilient Network (TUDOR), led by the University of Surrey's 5G/6G Innovation Centre.

I was awarded a postgraduate certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education and Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) in September 2024. I have been a Teaching Assistant since 2016 on an undergraduate course, Digital Electronics, where I am involved in tutoring, lab demonstrations, and student assessment.

I also have international teaching experience at Shanghai University of Electric Power, where I deliver lectures, tutorials, and exam setting and marking for the Computer Architecture module.

In my previous life, I worked as a telecommunications officer with the United Nations in Malawi, where I managed telecommunications and IT infrastructure and technology-for-development projects. It was through this work experience that my interest in research on technologies for affordable wireless connectivity was ignited.

Qualifications

I received my PhD in Electronic and Electrical Engineering from University of Strathclyde in 2022. My PhD thesis was on modelling of heterogeneous wireless coexistence in shared spectrum using hypergraph theory. I also received my MSc (Eng) in Digital Communications Networks from University of Leeds BSc in 2015.

Teaching

I am interested in teaching a range of subjects in digital electronics, communications engineering, and computer architecture at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. I am willing to accept international teaching assignments. I am also open to student supervision assignments, having completed the Strathclyde Supervisor Development Programme in 2025, which equipped me to co-supervise PhD students.
