Personal statement

I am the Strathclyde Manager of the Collaborative GSK-University of Strathclyde doctoral research and training programmes. The programmes were initiated in 2009 and span the Department of Pure & Applied Chemistry and the Strathclyde Institute of Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences, supporting both GSK employees and new graduates towards higher research degrees. I collaborate extensively with colleagues across the institution and with our external partners, with whom we have had over 220 registered postgraduate students. I also act as Research Manager for the Kerr Research Team in the Department of Pure & Applied Chemistry. In this role, I contribute to the strategic planning of the research projects, as well as assisting in the development of individuals, whilst attempting to enhance their independent contributions overall. I provide specialist Chemistry knowledge to make recommendations and decisions on research activities and act as co-author on research publications and grant proposals. Beyond the Faculty of Science, I am also engaged with the University’s broader research and knowledge exchange ambitions, including Researcher Development and Research Culture. I am Committee Manager of the Researcher Development and Culture Sub-Committee and also work towards the implementation of the Researcher Development Concordat obligations at Strathclyde. I joined the University following postdoctoral research in Chemistry at the University of Glasgow and PhD studies at Strathclyde.
