Personal statement

I am Researcher Associate in the Department of Work, Employment and Organization at Strathclyde Business School, where I am also PhD Candidate. I hold a Master of Science and a PhD in Collective Health from the Federal University of Mato Grosso (UFMT), Brazil. I also hold an MBA in Project Management and People Management in Organisations, and a degree in Psychology. I am Brazilian, leaving and working in UK since 2021. Research Interests: My doctoral research was developed in partnership with the Postgraduate Programme in Collective Health at UFMT, within the scope of the project Promotion of Healthy and Sustainable Territories, funded by the Brazilian Ministry of Labour. My research investigates the persistence of contemporary slavery in traditional communities historically affected by colonial slavery. Through participatory and community-engaged approaches, the study seeks to strengthen community empowerment and to systematise pathways for breaking the intergenerational cycles of labour exploitation. The research is grounded in the understanding that territories free from slavery must also be healthy and sustainable. This involves environmental protection, cultural preservation, health promotion, access to land and water, poverty reduction, food sovereignty and access to education. For this reason, my work adopts a transdisciplinary perspective, collaborating with scholars from different fields to develop integrated approaches to healthy and sustainable territories. Ultimately, the research aims to contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. My main research interests include contemporary slavery, rural labour, workers’ health, environmental health, sustainability, and agribusiness.
