Personal statement

Randika received his bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka. Immediately after his graduation, he joined Toshiba Corporation in Singapore as an industrial and manufacturing engineer. At Toshiba, he held multiple key roles across their manufacturing department and received the “Employee of the Year” award in appreciation of his work. To broaden his horizons, he commenced his PhD in the United Kingdom and successfully defended the thesis titled “Industrial Robotics for Rolling-stock Maintenance”. Since then, he joined the team at the Centre for Ultrasonic Engineering (CUE) at the University of Strathclyde as a postdoctoral researcher and promoted to be a Knowledge Exchange Fellow and subsequently to Lecturer in Robotics. At the moment, he contributes to multiple projects mainly funded by EPSRC, InnovateUK and BEIS. Randika investigates novel techniques to perform robotically delivered in-process inspection of high-value components in aerospace, nuclear, defence and energy sectors. Randika has published several high impact research articles and delivered multiple international presentations. He is a registered Chartered Engineer (CEng) at Engineering Council, United Kingdom and a member of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE).
