Personal statement

I completed the MSci in Statistics with Work Placement degree from the University of Glasgow in 2015.  The year I spent working in the costing team of the Information Services Division of NHS Scotland provided me with insights into how statistical methodology was applied in a real-world setting.  I continued studying at the University of Glasgow to complete my PhD in Statistical Genetics.

Following my studies, I took an Assistant Professor post in the Mathematics and Statistics department at University College Dublin (UCD).  I then obtained a Postdoctoral Researcher position within the Insight Centre for Data Analytics at UCD, funded by SFI.  I worked with Prof. Claire Gormley to develop novel statistical methods for high-dimensional data.  This was motivated by a neuroscience problem in improving the diagnosis of Alzheimer's Disease using spectroscopy data from blood samples.  During my time at UCD, I built a strong network of external collaborators and I enjoyed applying my skills to applied problems.

I am now the Director of Knowledge Exchange in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics in the University of Strathclyde.

Teaching

I enjoy teaching applied statistical modules where we apply methods to real-world problems.  I have experience in a range of teaching styles, face-to-face and online.

I was honoured to be nomimated for the UCD Teaching Award in 2020/2021.
