Personal statement

Min Zhu is a third-year PhD student in Finance at Strathclyde Business School, funded by a full scholarship. Her research lies at the intersection of corporate finance and sustainability, with a particular focus on how negative ESG incidents affect corporate risk-taking and executive compensation in global markets. She has presented her work at several international conferences, including the Academy of International Business 2025 in Louisville, USA. Min also contributes to the academic community through peer review for leading journals such as Abacus (ABS 3). Her passion is producing rigorous, impactful research while supporting students in developing their knowledge and skills in finance.

Before beginning her doctoral studies, Min earned an MRes in Business and Management (with Distinction) from the University of Stirling in 2020 and a bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Xi’an Technological University in 2013.

Alongside her research, she is actively engaged in teaching at both postgraduate and undergraduate levels. She has tutored modules including Advanced Corporate Finance and Applications, Topics in Corporate Finance, and Business Finance. Min is also an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (AFHEA), reflecting her commitment to effective, research-informed teaching.
