Role Overview

The Student Experience Directorate is recruiting for Registration and Welcome Guides to support Welcome and Development Week activities in September 2024.   Based within the Learning and Teaching Building, and working directly under the supervision of the International Student Support and Student Experience Helpdesk managers – Registration and Welcome Guides will be at the heart of welcoming new students to the University and helping them navigate university systems to complete registration, answer questions from new students and lead bespoke campus tours.

Welcoming new University of Strathclyde students and supporting activities including:

Assisting students in the online elements of registration

Leading bespoke tours of the campus

Providing administrative support to the International Student Support Team - such as checking-in students for pre-booked tours

Being an ambassador to support the Student Experience Welcome Hub

Distribution of refreshments and snacks from the Student Experience Welcome Hub

Identifying newly arrived students who may require additional social integration support and discretely advising them of other University of Strathclyde support services

Maintaining the look and feel of the Student Experience Welcome Hub

Promoting University and Students’ Union welcome events

Providing assistance and information to students on an ad-hoc basis during the University’s Welcome and Development Week

Staffing the Student Experience Welcome Hub

Welcoming students and providing directional assistance in key locations so they are efficiently guided to relevant event area/service

Any other duties that will assist with the overall operation of Welcome and Development Week

  • Be fully aware of location of facilities on campus
  • Commitment to attend essential training on Thursday 12 September 2024 and commit to working a minimum of 20 hours during Welcome and Development week and week 1 of Semester 1 (16 – 27 September) as part of a pre-scheduled shift pattern between 9.30am and 4pm
  • Eligible to undertake work in the UK and consent to Right to Work checks if the application is successful
  • Existing University of Strathclyde student 
  • Knowledge of Glasgow City Centre amenities
  • Knowledge of the University campus and key service locations
  • Understanding of University of Strathclyde student services
  • Working knowledge of PEGASUS concerning registration

Attendance at the interview and the training/briefing sessions is compulsory and we therefore cannot accept your application if you are unable to attend on these dates.    Unfortunately, we are unable to offer training via ZOOM/MSTeams etc.

  • Branded t-shirts and name badges will be provided; t-shirts must be kept fresh, clean, and worn on all shifts.
