This accessibility statement applies to StrathApp v4.0, released Thursday 12th September 2024.
StrathApp is run by University of Strathclyde. We want as many people as possible to be able to use it. For example, that means you should be able to:
- Navigate using buttons on the screen without accidentally selecting another button
- Use the app across various screen sizes and orientations
- Switch between dark and light modes
We’ve also made the text as simple as possible to understand.
AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.
How Accessible this Mobile App is:
We know some parts of StrathApp aren’t fully accessible:
- It is not possible to navigate all services using a keyboard
- Resized text sometimes may not display correctly
- Headings are not always identified by screen readers.
- Some icons don’t have meaningful text alternatives, so screen reader users don’t get accurate descriptions of what they represent.

StrathApp is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard, due to the non-compliances and exemptions listed below.
Non-accessible content
We know that some parts of StrathAoo aren't fully accessible:
Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations:
Issues with content
- Improper Header Coding: Some pages contain headings that are not coded as headings. This does not meet WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.3.1 Info and Relationships
- Non-meaningful Links: some of our links do not make sense or are unhelpful when removed from the context of surrounding content. This does not meet WCAG 2.2 success criterion 2.4.4 Link Purpose (in context)
- Colour Contrast: some of pages elements use colours which do not have high enough contrast between text and background. This does not meet WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.4.3 Contrast (minimum)
- Text Resizing Issues: Resizing text to 200% causes layout issues on some pages. This does not meet WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.4.4 - Resize Text
- Missing Alt Text: Some Icons are missing alternative text (alt text), which affects users relying on screen readers to understand visual content. This does not meet WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.1.1 - Non-Text Content
Issues with Interactive elements
- Keyboard Navigation: Some parts of StrathApp cannot be navigated using a keyboard. This includes certain interactive elements, which cannot be operated or accessed solely through keyboard input. This does not meet WCAG Criterion 2.1.1 - Keyboard
- Keyboard Focus Indicator: For some of our interactive elements, there is no visible keyboard focus indicator, showing where you are on the page. This does not meet WCAG 2.2 success criterion 2.4.7 - Focus visible

We are taking a continuous improvement approach to improving accessibility, working through the issues identified in this statement. We are prioritising issues which have the highest impact on users. Whilst accessibility improvement has been performed in-house till date, we intend to take external advice in the near future.
