Strathclyde mobile appPolicies and standards

The Information Services Directorate (ISD) manages the University’s Mobile App Service. This service is responsible for the development, delivery, hosting, advice and guidance of Mobile Apps for the University of Strathclyde, primarily released through the University’s app stores.

There are two key supporting documents for the management of mobile apps at the University - our Mobile App Developments Policy and our Standards for third-party mobile app developers.

Mobile App Developments Policy

The Mobile App Developments Policy outlines key principles and processes for Mobile App development, delivery, collaborations (internal and external), and provides a framework for the application of these, subject to governance and approval.

This policy covers processes for the proposal of:

  • Third-party mobile apps: those provided by a supplier external to the University
  • Research apps: built as the outputs of academic research
  • Entrepreneurship apps: built by students or staff in support of societies, interest groups or for commercial purposes

The University’s app stores are not available to students for teaching or assessment activities. Support for apps built by students as part of their academic studies must be managed solely by the academic department.

Standards for third-party mobile app developers

The Standards for Third-Party Mobile App Developers sets out the standards which must be adhered to in order to maintain the security, accessibility, quality and reputation of all mobile apps provided through the University of Strathclyde’s App Store accounts.

Adherence to these standards does not guarantee approval of a new mobile app – the process for requesting the approval of a new mobile app to be released through the University’s App Stores is detailed in the Mobile App Developments Policy (see section above).
