The application

Enter your personal details to complete a Postgraduate Research User Profile. Once you submit this:

  • you will receive an email containing your username and password.
  • click the link in your email to confirm your profile
  • continue with the application

During the application you'll be asked for the following information and evidence uploaded to the application:

  • your full contact details
  • transcripts and certificates of all degrees
  • proof of English language proficiency if you are not from a majority English-speaking country as recognised by UKVI
  • two references, one of which must be academic. Please see our guidance on referees
  • funding or scholarship information
  • international students must declare any previous UK study
  • research proposal for some programmes. Search our postgraduate research degrees for the specific requirements for your research programme.

By filling these details out as fully as possible, you'll avoid any delay to your application being processed by the University.

Accepting an offer

If your application is accepted, an offer will be sent to you through Pegasus, our online application system.

If you accept our offer of study, you'll then be sent an offer letter via the email address you provide. We'll need you to fulfil any academic, administrative or financial conditions that we ask.

Bench fees

Some programmes charge a bench fee in addition to tuition fees. Bench fees are charged when a programme (or specific project) incurs extra costs, such as laboratory space, consumables or equipment. If you need to pay bench fees, the cost will be confirmed by your supervisor and will be available to view in your online application.

International students

Information for international students can be found here.

An ATAS (Academic Technology Approval Scheme) clearance certificate is a mandatory requirement for some postgraduate students in science, engineering and technology.  You must have this in place before you apply for your visa.

Find out if you need an ATAS certificate.

Once you have fulfilled the conditions of your offer, your CAS statement will be issued to you.  This will allow you to apply for your visa to study.

Registration documentation will be issued to you when UKVI inform the university that you have used your CAS to apply for your visa.

UK or EU students

If you're applying as a UK or EU student, you'll then be issued with your registration documentation once you have completed all the conditions of your offer.
