Overview
PhD in the EnerHy CDT which is an EPSRC-funded Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) focusing on research and training in the areas of Renewable Energy and Hydrogen. The University of Strathclyde leads the wind/renewable energy training and research elements of the CDT programme. Funded by Siemens Energy and EPSRC, this 4 year this PhD studentship, at the University of Strathclyde is in the area of electrical engineering and data science.Eligibility
This 4 year fully funded studentship is open to applicants with a first-class or upper second-class degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, Machine Learning, Physics, Data Analytics or other relevant areas.
Project Details
This role offers an exceptional opportunity for a motivated researcher to contribute to cutting edge work at the intersection of high voltage engineering, data science, and offshore energy systems. You will be responsible for conducting research into predictive failure analysis methodologies for high-voltage direct current (HVDC) interconnection systems. This will include assessments of primary components such as switchgear and power transformers, as well as essential auxiliary systems that are integral to the operation and safety of offshore platforms.
Working within a multidisciplinary environment, you will develop advanced diagnostic models, analyse complex condition monitoring data, and help shape innovative solutions that enhance the reliability, resilience, and long-term performance of next generation HVDC networks.
Funding details
A minimum, tax-free, stipend starting at £21,805 per year is available. Additionally, £3,000 per annum is provided for consumables and travel. Funded jointly by Siemens Energy and EPSRC, this 4-year PhD studentship is based at the University of Strathclyde.
While there is no funding in place for opportunities marked "unfunded", there are lots of different options to help you fund postgraduate research. Visit funding your postgraduate research for links to government grants, research councils funding and more, that could be available.
