Further information

If you already have an offer of study commencing in 2025/26, you do not need to apply again, but you should inform us via hass-scholarships@strath.ac.uk quoting your application number and that you wish to be considered for the Diamond Jubilee Research Scholarship funding competition, prior to closing date.

Applicants will be notified of the outcome by the end of May 2025 or sooner.

Successful applicants must be available to start their studies on 1 October 2025

It is important to note, that this competition is for Tuition Fees only and potential applicants should give this careful consideration because, if successful, it cannot be used in conjunction with any other award. You would need to be able to self-fund the cost of living as there is no stipend with this award. Therefore, you must decide prior to applying whether or not this is financially viable as no further financial assistance or support is available.

How to apply

Identify a potential supervisor

Step 1 – view our research subjects and identify the area in which you want to study

Step 2 – once you’ve found the subject you’re interested in, review the supervisors list on that page and each academic’s profile

Step 3 – contact the relevant supervisor to discuss your intended research topic.  Email addresses are available on the supervisor’s staff profile page

Step 4 – the supervisor will advise on the suitability of the subject matter and recommend whether to submit a formal application.

Submit your application

Once you’ve carried out the steps above, please follow the instructions on the ‘Apply’ tab which is available within each of the research subjects pages.

Online application (Pegasus system) – documentation required

  • 1500-word research proposal – the elements we expect to see in a proposal are: Title, Research question(s), Research context, Research methods and Preparedness. References are not counted within the word count.
  • A 2-page CV, including your academic achievements and any professional experience
  • All academic transcripts & certificates to date
  • 2 Academic reference letters
  • IELTS Academic - minimum overall band score of 6.5 or 7.0 (please refer to individual programme regarding minimum requirement), taken within 2 years prior to commencing PhD study or equivalent, if English is not your first language

The University is aware of the temptation to use Generative AI, (including ChatGPT), however these tools do not always generate accurate and up-to-date information. Our academics, who are experts in their field, are very good at identifying when text has been generated in this way and expect your research proposal to be written in your own words. We need to know that you have the academic skills required to write a thesis and can only support you on your journey when we see your own work.

In the Funding section – please state “Diamond Jubilee Research Scholarship 2025/26”

It is only when a supervisory team (minimum of 2 supervisors) has been appointed and accepted, will a conditional offer of a place be issued.  You need to have a supporting statement from your chosen supervisor to be considered for this award.
