Meet your Helpdesk Team

Hey there, welcome to the University of Strathclyde! I'm your friendly neighborhood Student Experience Helpdesk Manager, and I'm here to make your time here amazing.

Here's the lowdown on yours truly:

  • Strathclyde veteran: I've been here since 2012, and in higher education since 2004 (with a sprinkle of primary teaching thrown in for good measure!).
  • Student experience champion: I took the Helpdesk helm in August 2022, so I know all the ins and outs of navigating university life.
  • Glasgow graduate: I studied at both Glasgow and Strathclyde, and let me tell you, it was an unforgettable experience!
  • West Coast dweller: Living near the coast gives me major beach vibes, but I also love popping into the city for work and fun.

 Now, onto the juicy stuff:

  • Explore like a local: Glasgow is bursting with hidden gems, so ditch the map and wander!
  • Music lover? Foodie? Glasgow caters to every taste bud and beat. Get ready to discover your new favorite spots!
  • City escape? No problem: You're closer to stunning countryside and beaches than you think. Trust me, it feels like a vacation every time!

Remember: My door (or inbox) is always open for questions, tips, or just a friendly chat. Let's make your Strathclyde adventure the best one yet!

I have been working at Strathclyde University for almost two years now. Prior to working at the Student Experience Helpdesk, I studied and worked part-time at University of Glasgow, where I graduated in 2020. I have been living in Glasgow for several years, and can offer a few recommendations to students newly arrived in the city:

  • If you use the subway, get a Smartcard (it will be cheaper in the long run)
  • Go to Glasgow Botanical Gardens and try to find the abandoned railway station (without using Maps!)
  • There is a great cycle path from Glasgow to Loch Lomond along the Clyde canal (best in Spring/Summertime after the trees blossom)
  • Consider taking the time to visit parts of the Highlands. Cairngorms National Park has some spectacular forests where you can spot red squirrels and eagles

I am Mark, one of the Student Experience Helpdesk Officers.  I am an experienced university administrator having worked for the last 25 years in a number of different UK universities, including Manchester Metropolitan and the London School of Economics.  After living in London for over 30 years, my wife and I decided to move to Glasgow in August 2021 to pursue a quieter less hectic lifestyle.  I subsequently joined the University of Strathclyde in December 2021. Glasgow is a great place to live with plenty to see and do.  I particularly enjoy getting out into nature, so the many green spaces in and around the city are great for this.  I would particularly recommend Pollock Park where you can see the legendary highland cows if you're lucky!

I'm Olivia, one of the Student Experience Helpdesk Officers at the University of Strathclyde. Prior to working at Strathclyde I volunteered and worked supporting students in primary and higher education. I first moved to Scotland to study as an exchange student and then came back to study at Strathclyde. I loved my time here so much that I just couldn’t stay away. Scotland has a lot to offer with the opportunity for easy access to cities and the countryside. One of my favourite places in Glasgow is the Glasgow Botanic Gardens with beautiful glasshouses and space for walking and enjoying the different plants.
