Would you recommend this summer programme?

Yes 100%! I was apprehensive at first as 4 weeks is a long time to be away and also in a country I'd never been to. I adapted so quickly, there is so much support through the university with contact etc and no reason to feel alone.
It is a core memory/experience that will be hard to top!
What activities were organised by your programme? Did one in particular stand out as your favourite?

We had loads of things planned around our coursework E.g visits to museums, Stonewell memorial, the travel agency (legalised cannabis store), NMIC (Northern Manhattan Improvement Corp)
In terms of the course I was really inspired by NMIC and the work they delivered, they integrated multi professions together into a team to provide, protect and care for Immigrants. We heard stories of individuals they had worked with having very positive outcomes and also the passion behind what they do and why.

Out with course work the full group and lecturers planned a day out together to Coney Island, this was my favourite trip as everyone came together and had the best time on all the rides! This definitely brought groups of people together to mingle more which was great to see.
Did you have the opportunity to travel elsewhere on your summer programme?

We stayed in Brooklyn instead of Manhattan and I felt like it gave us more opportunity to explore New York. We didn't travel anywhere outside of New York though.

What is your favourite memory of your summer programme?

There was so many! Although I think it was just the bond we created as a small group living together for 4 weeks, there were 5 of us that shared accommodation and we became a wee family unit which is going to make the rest of the course much more special I think!
How has this summer programme impacted your life?
_Skye_Masson.jpg)
It has really shaped my views and values and how I see the world, I try to always be open minded but it is difficult sometimes without an understanding or insight into other cultures or structures of certain countries. Personally it has gave me much more confidence and belief in myself to carry me through my studies, I am a single parent of 2 and a mature student so sometimes doubt myself. It has also shown me that my kids will always be my number one priority but I need to put myself first sometimes when opportunities are sent my way.
Socially I have made friends and connections for life!
