Two second-year female engineering students have been named as Cirrus Merit Scholarship students for 2024/25.
The Electronic and Electrical Engineering Department’s Merit Scholarships Panel has appointed Katie Wright and Maisara Fatima Abdul Maleque as the first scholars of the inaugural programme set up with semiconductor company Cirrus Logic.
Academic excellence
The aim is to increase the number of women completing engineering degrees, and the two merit scholarships will provide financial support for up to four years for second-year female engineering students who are passionate about STEM and demonstrate academic excellence.
The recipients will also have exclusive internship opportunities with Cirrus Logic for real-world engineering experience and mentorship by engineers.
Maisara said: “Being awarded the Cirrus logic scholarship and being supported as a woman in engineering is a great source of motivation."
Katie said: “I’m delighted to have been awarded this scholarship and hope it encourages more women and girls into STEM.”
Life-changing
Professor Anthony Gachagan, Head of the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering at the University of Strathclyde, said: “We’re delighted to announce the appointments of the first scholarships with Cirrus Logic, which offer a life-changing opportunity for two of our female engineering students.
“As a socially-progressive university, we are committed to supporting and encouraging more women to study engineering.”
