AlumniThe Principal's welcome

Strathclyde People 2017

A very warm welcome to Strathclyde People magazine. This has been another year of great success for Strathclyders around the globe, and the following pages will give you a flavour of some of the terrific achievements of our alumni community.

Here in Glasgow, we are reflecting on a year of major progress for Strathclyde, while looking to the future as we accelerate our work and impact as a leading, international technological university that also delivers value to society through our purpose as a socially progressive institution.

On behalf of the entire University community, I’d like to thank you for your vital, ongoing support."

Professor Sir Jim McDonald
Principal and Vice-Chancellor

I’m pleased to let you know that we are now around halfway through our £650 million campus redevelopment. The centrepiece will be our new learning and teaching facility – our single biggest investment in a building to date – as well as ‘Strathclyde Sport’ – our new centre to boost health and wellbeing for all.

We are building for a more sustainable Strathclyde with our Combined Heat and Power System, which will dramatically reduce our carbon emissions and energy costs, and we are creating leading-edge facilities in the Wolfson building for the Department of Biomedical Engineering.

At the heart of our plans are our people: our students, our staff and the global communities we serve. I was particularly pleased that this ethos was recognised with the award of the UK Workplace of the Year from the Times Higher Education in 2017, just months after we were named UK Business School of the Year by the same publication.

Our success is in no small part due to the collective talent and support of our alumni community. Your feedback and engagement play a vital role in helping us give tomorrow’s Strathclyders the best possible experience – and on their behalf, I’d ask each of you to please keep in touch. It may be that we do not have an email address for you – we would be delighted if you could take a moment to send it to us.

On behalf of the entire University community, I’d like to thank you for your vital, ongoing support.

Best wishes
