When do I select my classes?

You will submit a list of provisional classes as part of your online exchange application. Please note that all classes are provisional until you arrive. Classes may sometimes be withdrawn or changed so you must be quite flexible around your choice of classes. You are encouraged to submit additional reserve classes which can be substituted if necessary.

Advice on classes offered by other Faculties can be found here

AG = Accounting & Finance
EC = Economics
HR = Human Resource Management
MG = Management (including International Business and HTM)
MK = Marketing
MS = Business Analysis/Management Science
Z1 = Business Enterprise

What level of classes can I take?

Classes at Levels 1, 2 and 3 are open to exchange students.

Level 1 classes assume no or minimal knowledge of the subject. Most Level 1 classes run for the full year and are only open to students attending for the full academic year.

Level 2 classes may require some previous background in the subject.

Level 3 classes are likely to require intermediate knowledge of the subject. Check course descriptions for prerequisite knowledge and/or seek advice from the academic department.

Level 4 classes are not generally open to exchange students unless they can demonstrate substantial knowledge of the subject and can meet all prerequisites for the class. Department approval will be required.

Can I change classes?

You may want to make changes to your curriculum if you discover that a class covers material you have already studied, or you find it too advanced, or if you discover you have a timetable clash. You can change your curriculum during Orientation week and until the end of the second week of the teaching block.

How many classes will I have each week?

The number of lectures and tutorials you have for each class will vary. Lecture times are fixed and you should attend all lectures for a class. In most cases you will have one or two lectures for each class each week, and lectures could be 1 or 2 (or sometimes even 3) hours in length.

In addition to Lectures you are likely to require to attend a number of Tutorials, Workshops or Seminars for each class. Tutorial attendance is mandatory and your attendance will be recorded. Students who fail to attend the required Tutorials may be excluded from the final exam.

Students sign up for a Tutorial group on Myplace - make sure you sign up quickly before the preferred times are snapped up!

Two of my classes have lectures running at the same time - can I do this?

No. It's essential that you are able to attend all lectures for all classes, otherwise you will have great difficulty passing the class. You may also find that special seminars, presentations or class tests may be scheduled during lecture time, so you must make sure you are able to attend. If you discover a timetable clash, you will need to change one of your classes during the add/drop period at the beginning of the semester.

What if I fail any exams?

If you fail any exams during your study period at Strathclyde, you may be able to take the resit exam. Please check with the department which offers the class/course.

How do I receive an academic transcript at the end of my study period?

Two original academic transcripts will be sent to your home university at the end of your exchange once your marks have been approved by the relevant Exam Board.

When will I receive my transcript?

Semester 1 exchange students should expect to receive their transcript by the end of February. Semester 2 and full year students should expect to receive their transcript by the end of July.

If there are any queries relating to your marks, this is likely to delay your transcript.

PGT students with a project element to their degree will receive an academic transcript once the project is complete and final results are validated by the Board of Examiners. This is likely to take place during September.
