The Neil Hood Memorial Fund

The Neil Hood Memorial Fund was established in memory of Professor Neil Hood, former Dean of Business and Honorary Graduate (2003) of the University of Strathclyde. The general purpose of the scholarship is to develop an international outlook amongst undergraduate students of business at the University of Strathclyde. In the first instance, the Fund shall be used to provide travel awards to undergraduate business students who might otherwise be unable to afford a period of study abroad (exchange).

Eligibility

This scholarship is only open to students who wish to study on exchange outside Europe. Students wishing to study in Europe under the Erasmus+ programme will be eligible for Erasmus funding.

Applications are invited from any undergraduate student of Strathclyde Business School who has been accepted to study abroad under an established bilateral exchange programme, and who subsequently receives Board of Examiners approval to proceed to their period of exchange.

Selection Process

Selection of scholarship recipients will be at the discretion of the NHMF Selection Committee. There will be several awards made annually, based on the selection criteria.

Selection criteria

Applicants will be assessed on academic excellence, financial need and international developmental potential. Applicants will require to provide a clear statement of their financial need and an estimated breakdown of costs they will incur during their exchange. Applicants will also require to provide a written statement and supporting documentation. All documents will be reviewed as part of the selection process.

Successful Recipients

Successful recipients will act as an Ambassador for the Neil Hood Memorial Fund. Students will be expected to keep in touch during their time abroad with news of how they are getting on, and on return will require to write a reflective report about their achievements whilst abroad. Students will also be expected to participate in the Annual Reception for Neil Hood donors and give a short presentation on how the award of a scholarship impacted on their exchange abroad.

As an Ambassador for the NHMF, recipients will be expected to act as a resource for future students and should be willing to participate in the promotion of both the Fund and Strathclyde Business School at home and abroad.

Application Process

The SBS Exchange Team will provide further information to students on the application process when the application is open.
