Nabeel is an international student from Pakistan, he studied an MSc in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, where he graduated with Distinction in March 2024.

Why did you choose Strathclyde for your postgraduate study?

What did you enjoy most on your course?

The comprehensive coverage of key topics relevant to modern civil engineering practice. The course encompasses a wide range of subjects, including project management, Building Information Modelling (BIM), Advanced Construction Technology, and the latest concepts in structural engineering.

Participating in site visits to iconic landmarks such as the Forth Road Suspension Bridge and Edinburgh's North Bridge has been incredibly insightful and memorable. These excursions have allowed me to gain firsthand exposure to engineering marvels and deepen my understanding of the practical applications of theoretical concepts learned in the classroom. Moreover, they have provided valuable insights into the real-world challenges and considerations involved in large-scale infrastructure projects.

The combination of theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and exposure to emerging trends ensures that I am well-prepared to pursue a successful and fulfilling career in structural engineering and project management.

What has been your favourite thing about studying at Strathclyde?

My favourite aspect of studying at Strathclyde has been the vibrant and inclusive community. From day one, I felt welcomed and supported by both my peers and faculty members, creating an environment where learning feels engaging and enjoyable. Whether it's working together on group projects, attending inspiring lectures, or simply hanging out in the student union, there's always a strong sense of camaraderie that makes studying at Strathclyde truly special.

What do you think of Glasgow/Scotland? Have you managed to travel around much?

Glasgow, with its vibrant culture, rich history, and welcoming atmosphere, has left a lasting impression on me. The city's blend of modernity and tradition creates a unique charm that is both captivating and endearing. From its iconic landmarks to its streets lined with shops, cafes, and cultural venues, Glasgow has a lot to offer.

Exploring the Scottish countryside has been a truly awe-inspiring experience, allowing me to immerse myself in the stunning landscapes that have inspired artists, writers, and adventurers for centuries. Moreover, the warmth and hospitality of the Scottish people have made my travels even more memorable, creating a sense of community and connection wherever I go.

Were there any funding opportunities available to you and if so how did they help?

Yes, I was fortunate to have access to funding opportunities such as the Faculty of Engineering International Scholarships Postgraduate during my studies at Strathclyde. This support was invaluable, as it not only helped to ease the financial strain of fees, but also served as a recognition of my academic achievements and potential.

Do you have a part time job during your studies?

Yes, I had part-time positions in restaurants while pursuing my studies at Strathclyde. These jobs played a vital role in helping me meet my daily expenses and contribute to covering the costs associated with my studies. Beyond financial support, the additional income meant that I had the opportunity to travel around and experience all that Glasgow and Scotland have to offer.

What are your ambitions for the future and how do you think your time at Strathclyde will help you achieve your goals?

Looking ahead, I aim to utilise the professional network and industry connections gained during my time at Strathclyde to explore diverse career opportunities and establish myself as a leader in my field. Whether pursuing roles in research and development, industry, academia, or entrepreneurship, I am confident that the skills and experiences gained at Strathclyde will enable me to excel and make meaningful contributions to my chosen profession. Ultimately, I aspire to leave a legacy by applying my expertise to address pressing societal challenges and drive positive change in the world.
