MSc International Master Project ManagementKevin Chacko Shibu

After pursuing a Bachelor's and Master in Commerce (a comprehensive degree which amalgamates finance, marketing and economics), I gained two years’ work experience in portfolio accounting and project management at an asset management company. This accelerated my interest in understanding the potential prospects and facets of project management in order to build a skill set of finance and management.

I always aspired to pursue a Master degree in Europe, and whilst researching several institutions, the International Master in Project Management, a double degree offered jointly by MIP Politecnico di Milano Graduate School of Business (Italy) and Strathclyde Business School, seemed to be the perfect choice. Not only because of its broad range of study modules but also because of the cosmopolitan and pristine classroom experience this journey would offer.

The multi-dimensional structure of the course helped construct an exhaustive knowledge to assimilate and approach projects strategically, elevate the need for critically evaluating a project portfolio, and realizing the assorted variables under the domain of handling projects such as quantifying risk, planning efficiently, communicating effectively, negotiating and resolving conflicts dynamically. The group assignments helped facilitate multi-cultured synergies garnished with practical experiences through simulations of virtual project games, by assessing real-time data to analyse procurement strategies, and by working as project consultants towards a live client idea.

The course culminates by securing an internship, participating in a client project, or an individual thesis which gives way to applying everything learned, thereby preparing us to face the real world. I look forward to participating in projects more specifically within the arena of commerce and building capabilities in order to manage them in the near future.

The professors and program coordinators are extremely helpful and as intense as this course is with respect to the wide range of subjects and submission of assignments, it paves the way for better academic acumen and collective understanding made manifest by the diverse yet amazing friendships embraced over the period; be it a trip to Lake Como or a game of basketball at the Strathclyde Sports Centre.
