For my first period of post-doctoral training I went to Stockholm, to the Karolinksa Institute, Department of Toxicology, joining the research department of Professor Sten Orrenius. On my return to Scotland I worked in Aberdeen University as a post-doctoral researcher in Pharmacology/ Biochemistry/Medicine & Therapeutics/ Fish metabolism/gaining a very wide range of experience and went on to hold a Wellcome Lectureship, gradually gaining independence in research. I moved to Strathclyde University in 1988 as a Lecturer in Physiology & Pharmacology, and joined the Bioengineering Unit in 1990. There I have remained, loving almost every minute of it. I attained my Professorship in 2002. I am passionate about research in the fields of toxicology and metabolism, regenerative medicine, and the maintenance of differentiated liver cells in culture.
