Research Bio

Sloped buoy concepts have previously been shown to exhibit highly desirable qualities for a wave energy converter, albeit often under simplifying model assumptions or heavily controlled test conditions. This PhD work aims to combat the major challenges and outstanding questions that currently obscure the path towards a full-scale, freely-floating device. A mixture of modelling techniques and optimisation schemes are utilised in the pursuit of an improved understanding of sloped buoy concepts, ultimately with the hope of quantifying their full potential.
