James Weir Fluids Lab hosts 21st International Workshop on Numerical Methods for Non-Newtonian Flows

29 May - 01 June 2023 in Loch Lomond, Scotland

As in previous editions of the International Workshop on Numerical Methods for Non-Newtonian Flows, held somewhat regularly in North America and Europe since 1979, we wish to bring together leading researchers interested in discussing challenges, recent progress, future directions and emerging applications in computational and mathematical non-Newtonian and multiphase flows of complex fluids.

Following the Oaxaca online meeting in 2021, the 21st edition of IWNMNNF will be back in 2023 as an in-person event. The workshop will be held in Luss, a small town on the banks of Loch Lomond, Scotland (some 30-40 minutes away from Glasgow).

The meeting is residential and by invitation only.

The workshop is to promote discussions on diverse numerical methods at various scales for complex fluids, such as polymer solutions and melts, surfactants, suspensions, granular material, multiphase mixtures or fluid/fluids interfaces, among others, as well as on work of experimental nature focusing at exposing and understanding fluid mechanics and phenomena, within the workshop theme. The strong links between computation, analytical and experimental methods are emphasized in moving forward to robustly solve practical problems.

As in previous workshops, these include numerical methods for solutions of differential and integral constitutive models from continuum descriptions of the flowing complex fluids to the phenomenological and statistical mechanical frameworks for describing them, and include also experiments of such fluids in challenging flows.
